I cant seem to get #8 to come out. when I pull it it comes up about 1/2 inch and is under spring tension. I dont really want to bust something with my super human strength. ;)

from the picture it should be free, the lock is under the filter cap (#8) unless the lock ( #10 ) should be released before you lift it. lets wait for more replies ...

from the diagram 8 is totally free, unless it's jammed with the lock 10. the 1/2 inch your talking about seems to be the spring 12 and the cup 8 might be jammed with the plate 15, so when your pulling your finding that resistance. that diagram looks straight forward. if you busted anything it wont be so complicated to fix anything, I guess that could be bought as a kit. so it you wanna be in safe side, ask for the springs and plates locks ... etc, and then you wont worry about it.

There is a small clip on the center pin/rod which holds it down.
You have to pull this clip first off.

thank you Erich, where? I do not see anything literally. the top ov number 8 is clear and pulld up, under that is spring tension.

Suck the Pentosin out and then you can see it all.
It is already quite some time ago, so I am not sure how it was assembled. But the clip is below the steel strainer and the spring.

#8 doesnt come off to get to the clip! Im afraid im going to break it, I mean im pulling that thing up hard and it wont let loose, it does spin however. I'll need vice grips if I'm going to pull any harder, then probably surgery to my face when something busts loose.

**** dude ... ur still trying !! the bold and the beautiful #2 LOL ..

the only explanation is that the Lock #10 is jammed with #8 I can't find any other logical manner for this to come out.

hmm...wonder how much a new can would cost. It's gonna be all fughed up if I use vice grips.

That is really not so difficult, on my 1988 750 it is a kind of snap ring, like the one here called inside clamp series or the one next to it
http://www.auto-part-china.com/T_Snap_Ring_p1.htm

Remove it, clean it and then you can see how it is assembled.
