I realize that this is a 7 series forum, but hopefully there is some familiarity with the 635i as well. I have a chance to buy an '87 635csi pretty cheaply. The car is a 5-speed with 133k on the clock. The body is good, with a (very) little surface rust on one fender, and the front air dam is damaged and needs to be replaced. The interior is very good and all the electric options work except one of the power headrests.

I am familiar with the powertrain, as it's essentially identical to my '90 535i. I am looking for information as to what else I should be looking for. What are the weak points of the car and what is the general consensus as to what the car is worth.

Thanks,
- Hal

theres nothing really serious to look out for on a e24, it's about 80% exactly the same as a e28 535, worn bushings, minor cooling problems, not enough brakes... all fixable with goodies from later model bimmers, as long as you look at it as a 19 year old car and the shortcomings that come with that it should be fine

Winfred,
In your opinion is this a major step backwards mechanically from my current '90 535i?
Thanks,

I Am Familiar With Both Cars. I Believe The 90 535i Is Superior.
