Hi,
Is the window motor serviceable? Anyone done that? Easy?

I have never done it, but it looks they can be disassembled, look at these pics at Autohaus where they are just on sale

But usually a bit of grease for the mechanical joins helps and new

Carefully clean the area where the sliding pieces are sliding. Maybe there is old hard grease inside.

I just replaced one of the window lift motors on my e23; this should be the same as your 1988 525. The motor "pops" out once you remove two screws that hold it in; the motor "pops" out along with the worm gear that works witht he lifting mechanism. There is a set screw exactly opposite the motor and in line with the motor shaft - look for this - I loosened it to "pop" the new motor in, then tightened it (set screw) to make the whole thing work ok.
