In the U.K we have been living with terrorism for decades thanks mainly to the IRA.They have targeted children, the elderly and those who are unable to defend themselves. They were funded directly from the irish comunity in the USA for years .But the Uk didn't have the balls to 'kick ass' like the US did.Bush has finally stopped the funding from the US but this does not stop the berieved families morning the attrocities committed with funds raised in the US..Any comments?

Well, being neither from the US nor the UK, I'll bite your hook for a bit..

I would say that one has to be careful when linking a nation or groups of nations with atrocities. Everyone has skeletons in their closet. Is there a suggestion that there is significant responsibility of the US for current and ongoing strife in Northern Ireland? Is it the US' fault that strife continues in N.I.?

Somtimes the US is not the "worst offender" out there..how about bombing during WWII - US focus on was primarily against industrial targets during the daytime. British and Commonwealth bombing forces primarily focused on civilian/"break the will of the nation"-type targets at night, Dresden being the culmination of that type of campaign...not a particularly proud moment for the Brits (and us Canucks who also participated). US forces took proportionately far greater casualty rates than Brits/Commonwealth bomber forces by operating in daylight, but they considered that was the only way they could assure accuracy in their bombing and minimizing damage to surrounding civilian areas.

India? Middle East (up to the late 40's, early 50's)? There are a few more in the closet for non-US folks...

Cheers,
Duey

With out a doubt the British have spent most of the last several hundred years causing devistation wherever we went.We specialised in causing missery to large numbers of foriegn nationals whilst robbing the countries of any wealth they had.The British have for the most part tried to sort out the N.I problem with peace talks but they continually break down due to the decomissioning of arms issues and ongoing sectairian violence.I was interested in someone elses point of view on the whole funding terrorism issues. The only country that has made a conclusive stand against it is the USA .The Sept 11th attrocoties really have changed the whole perception of terrorism. Before then the terrorist were viewed as freedom fighters e.t.c but now they are seem in thier true light as indiscriminate murderers. Some of the non combatatants(terrorists) from the Afganistan conflict have now been returned to the UK from the USA.They were questioned by the British police then released with no charges......(absolutley ridiculous) .The bombing in Spain last week was atleast partly funded by UK nationals ,but our Goverment seems unwilling/unable to stand the way The US did and stop the funding.Without funding surely they cannot operate effectivly..Cheers Max

just because we didnt wade in all guns blazing didnt mean that we didnt do anything to stop the IRA. most op's carried out in ireland were covert. we did 'em a fair bit of damage
