I am getting the trans out of my 735iL, but can't get the convertor bolts to line up so I can remove them thru the hatch at the bottom of the bellhousing. Everytime we bump the starter, the bolts end up in the same place---not accessable. Am I doing something wrong or should we leave the convertor attached to the flywheel when removing trans?
Thanks

The converter should be removed with the trans unless you want it to dump a lot of trans fluid out on your head when the trans comes out; it needs to be pried away from the flexplate/ring gear towards the trans with a pry bar after the four bolts are removed. Manually turn the engine clockwise with a 36mm socket.

Thanks, Whit, just like an American car. I am acting rather ignorant on this. Will get at the bolts tomorrow.

How do you get to the convertor bolts? Is there a bellhousing in front of the flywheel, part of the engine?
I can't see any way to get to them.
Thanks
