Ok, so maybe Im going about getting this information wrong... but Im trying to figure out where to get this info about my car....

Things like engine (I think its a M50TU, but not sure if its Vanos or not?) Bulb type for lights... differences between the model years of E34... (I.E. electircal system differences). If my car is a '92 and a connector type changed from 91-92, is there a chance if its an early production 92 that it hadnt been updated? Production date (would this be in the engine compartment where it lists paint color?).

I have been literally reading, searching, reading searching... but these are a few things that Im still unsure on.

Your engine is just a m50b25 (no TU; TU came in 93).
Bulb types:
-low beams: 9006
-high beams: 9005
turn signal and taillight bulbs are the normal sized ones ... not sure what their number is.

production date is listed inside the drivers side door post on the sticker, or you can give us the last 7 digits of your VIN number and we'll get it for you.

edit: as far as electrical differences, there really isnt any between the e34s, other than the engine control electronics.

Just so you know, there are four recalls that haven't been done on your car:

0013012601 SIB #13-06-93 RECALL 94V-066 FEED FUEL H
0017050100 SIB #17-01-98 RECALL 98V-178 RADIATOR CA
0035050100 SIB #35-01-97 RECALL 97V-131 RETENTION O
0061014200 SIB #61-08-96 RECALL 96V-111 BRAKE LIGHT

The radiator cap recall is ********, but what the heck -- they want to give you a free part, so might as well go and get it.

Originally sold in NY on 6/26/92, was owned in Dublin/Ohio for a short while.

whit, I am intrigued... how do you figure out what's been recalled and what hasn't?

Call or visit your local dealer; give them the last six digits of your VIN and they'll be able to tell you if there are any open recall campaigns.

If the car goes in for service, the dealer is required to fulfill the recall (or arrange to do so in the near future if they don't have the part or the like).

Yes, that happens to be content stolen from my employer, and those *******s refuse to take it down.

Well, to be fair, they took it down once. We had a customer, who happens to be a French lawyer, write them a letter explaining that Brett isn't american. Now it's back up.

WTF.

lowell, I understand not giving proper copywrite credit and stuff... but shouldnt recall and definitions be public knowledge? or is there something else that Im missing here?

Me, as the consumer found only this reference on the entire net by searching by recall reference #.

Oh, I didn't mean to insinuate that you did anything wrong. You didn't.

We occasionally discuss the morality and legality behind copyright defacement on this board. It usually revolves around people infringing the Bentley copyright. I think it's wrong for people to freely distribute and use copyrighted material without paying the creator of that material his fair due.

The mentioned page is part of our E30 M3 repair manual, often regarded and referenced. We charge $109 for that manual. People pirating it (and selling copies of it on eBay) and similar material is the reason why these kinds of excellent resources probably won't be available to DIYers in the future (and in some cases, already aren't).

As someone that has the E34 manual in PDF on my desktop... and then after downloading it paid $58 + shipping to Bavauto. I somewhat agree. However I think copyright laws are horribly outdated in this age of information.

music... movies... books.... Ive downloaded all of them.. and I will pay for a product once I feel it is worthwhile. But I have a bad taste in my mouth from buying things that claimed things they didnt do, or live up to. Thats why I agressively search around for something before I buy it.

Not saying copyrights are bad... but I think the current law hasnt matured with the availabiltiy of information in the world....

But that might be the reason the the bimmerwerks E34 page has the Bently posted as a sticky and gets about one post a day :)

Any chance of getting that same type of info for my car? I believe is was built in 5/92.
I just got it 11 months ago.
I'm in the SF Bay Area.
