Which BMW oem shifter is an easy, straight drop in for a '90 535i to yield a smooth, short shift? I've scanned the archives and read of great ones for 530s, or ones that have to be bent for the 535, etc, etc. - but did not find one specifically for this model.
Another alternative seems to be finding another 535 shifter and lengthening the bottom end 10mm by a cut & weld.
Excuse yet another 'short shifter' post ..... but would appreciate a recommendation.

I've tried the 3rd one down which is from a 1.9 4-cyl Z3 and is a nice compromise for smooth action and shorter travel. I like e36 Euro M3 a bit better -- slightly notchy but shorter travel:

The missing part number for the e36 M3 shifter is 25 11 1 222 955

Most of the stock BMW shifters are ~$40-$50 at the dealer.

Gale, Thanks for the 'voice of experience' :) . Quite a shifty collection ....

...i'm running it in my car. Like it alot. Martin had the Z3 if I recall and it was way too short and notchy. He went to the z8 as well.

Seems to be a nice balence between "short and notchy" and a "rowboat oar". :D
