We have an E34 M5 91.
Wont fire unless you pump and pump on the accelerator. Once it does start it misses very badly. Once it gets warm, it keeps trying to stall and will do if you allow the revs to go below 2000. Once it stops, you cannot get it going again.
Have looked at plugs and points, distributor cap and have had the Mass Airflow Meter replaced at great expense!.

Anyone got any ideas?

Sorry, my fault.

I'm not the technical one, I just do the admin!

From what you say, I would say its probably worth cleaning the insides of the Idle Control Valve, and making sure it moves smoothly ... easy half hour job ... minimal disassembly & tools needed, so virtually no cost !
