go back to inspect the new regulator before putting the ducting back, and lookey what i see.....oh well, at least i got a replacement spring for free from a local alternator rebuilder for the old unit...epoxying the thing, putting it back on in an hour.

i barely put any torque on that bolt, just enough to keep the regulator from moving..there are 4 washers on there, its not like the force isn't distributed evenly.

that sucks, you gonna use that one or the old one with the new spring? or just hang on to the old one for next week?

just put some permatex orange gasket make around the hole to make a spongy means to disperse the force equally.

you can probably tighten it on the alternator without it completely dry, well, you? naw better wait.

the permatex made it too high, ie alt voltages of 12.25 and 11.75, so i scraped it and tried to level it out with washers.....now am getting 14.65 and 14.62, respectively.....do i still have a problem? is the brush position absolutely critical? this morning, with the crack, i was gettng 14 volts and 13.5.

Leave it alone... 14.4V is normal best condition...

i tried to reply to your PM but you are full according to the error message, heres a copy/paste of what i typed

i would say it's ok, the difference in voltage is most likely due to the brushes breaking in to the comm and getting better contact, check it again in a week or so for voltage to be sure, but if it's putting out 14. something volts it's doing fine, i would only be worried at 15v or under 13v
