Any special tools or tricks to remove the wood without tearing up the surrounding vinyl? I don't like that prying talk in Bentley. The car is a 1990 535ia. The cracking has finally started to lift. P Owners spilled a milk shake and it got under the clear. Took almost two years to get to this point. Refinish or replace(BMA). I refinished the wood on a E12 before and it turned out great. A pain to remove the clear. Used ones always in no better shape. Thanks in advance.

Carefully slip a bent wire hook at the forward edge and lift up:

Thanks, once again, to Don Gale's great repair tips. Lots of good stuff on his web pages. HERE'S (http://www.nmia.com/~dgnrg/page_13.htm) his procedure on removal of the wood, and the shifter knob, etc. Maybe you'll find a few french fries down there too! :p

Hope this helps.........

........and apparently at the same speed too! . . .

If only I could get motivated to finish the wood console panel on mine. I have all the materials to make a new one from scratch -- aluminum sub-panel cut to shape, burled walnut veneer, proper adhesive, pore filler, stain, epoxy gloss clear coat, etc. I've been gimping along with the naugahyde panel that came with my conversion "kit" for a year and a half now -- my car has succumbed to the "shoemaker's kid" syndrome :(

Kinda nice to have the vinyl tho, don't have to worry about spills or scratches :)
