Hey guys. I am a 16-year old in Southern California, and I want to clean up my Mom's old 1985 BMW 745i. It is the classic imported edition from Germany (all buttons inside are in German), has the Buffalo Leather seats, etc.

So, it has been sitting in the driveway for about 4 years, hasn't been running. I was thinking to charge the battery, put some gas in the tank, start it up. If it runs ok, I will take it down to a local car detailer, and have it fully detailed, and get the engine steam cleaned.

Would that be a good idea (steam cleaning)?

What fluids/things should I check on the car? I hear these models are awesome if you keep them nice. It is in really nice condition, just needs a tuneup.

Thanks for the help.

Take it to a good detailer and for around $150 they will do everything. I took my 5er to one and the engine was immaculate and shining when they were done. I don't know how they cleaned it but I haven't had any issues so you should be fine.
