Detailing.. Swirl marks

I've been talkign in the chat room for the last couple of days. So far, i've figured out that Maguire (sp?) makes great products that are widely available. Clay bars were recommended a couple times. Definately a wash and then polish to get rid of those marks.

Anything else someone can recommend?
I have saturday off from work. Im going to take the time to wash the car. Is it too cold to polish/wax it as well? A couple people told me it is, so im taking their word for it. Just wondering what everyone else's opinions are.

Hey Ilya,
Do some reading on the autopia site http://www.autopia-carcare.com/ , and also Mequiars site, http://www.meguiars.com/ . Both are very informative and in about 30 minutes you'll know more than most people think they do regarding detailing. The Mequiars products all work very well. I wouldn't go too overboard on detaling your car this time of year unless you live in a warm climate where you can enjoy the benefits of it for an extended length of time. Your question about temperature should be difinitively answered on one of those links.

If you are looking for a great detailing job, I would highly recommend clay barring the car. I did it a couple of years ago, and the car looked and felt new (at least the paint).

It's very time consuming, and of course the elements quickly take their toll once you start driving.


I used either Mother's or Meguire's clay bar and wax afterwards. I did it in the North Carolina summer, so cold wasn't an issue.

3M makes a swell swirl mark remover. You can also use a pad on low speed
and keep it damp - will also work
