Any gotchas? Anything you got to take off first? Wish I'd known about the vibration damper before I started on my waterpump. Trying to avoid a repeat.

if you don't i can get you some scans, if you do, you'll have to wait for somebody with a m60....

didn't see it. I'll have to look again. The Bentley is pretty spotty on the M60.

Hi Tim,

I have never done an alternator on a 540, but I have crawled under a few. Should be pretty straight forward, 4 bolts or so, a belt, a plug or two, and slide it out. I say go for it...I pulled a PS pump and system out of my wife's E36 without any manuals. Looking back on it I shouldn't have done it but I was pissed and wanted to conquer the problem. Was actually really great for learning a few things about the steering system. I did way more work than necessary but I had the time. Also, don't forget to disconnect the battery before working. Common sense but it is always a good reminder.

Best,
Rory

like it covers all the m60 bases, pages 121-4 to 121-6, but here's a etk that pretty much reiterates it....
