Hi there
I have an 89 BMW 525i m20 engine. I have had this baby for 2 years now and done all the work on the car my self. About a year ago the transmission went out on the car, so i changed the transmission from a 4hp22 to a 4hp24 from an 91 525i with an m20 engine. I started noticing the temperature on the car was rising last summer when i installed an oil cooler from a 91 325i. i then installed a bigger radiator from a 750i which solved the problem until a month ago when the car overheated. i put in a new water pump last Sunday. Then the car overheated again on Wednesday night. I am suspecting that it might be the head gasket but i put in a new one 2 years ago when i got the car with head i rebuilt. At this point i am considering changing the engine with an M50 engine from a 92 525i manufactured April 92. My question is will this motor bolt on a 4hp24 tranny.
the zf 4hp24 was the 750 tranny never herd of one in anything else, the m20 and m50 have the same bellhousing bolt pattern but the m50 sits at a different angle and the tranny is clocked to match so it sits level, the m50 used a chevy sourced tranny that was computer controlled
